Oak is a beautiful firewood and cooking wood - it gives off a strong sweet smell even before you light it, so it produces gorgeous smelling smoke as it burns. It's about as dense as any firewood produced in the UK, so it packs a huge amount of energy for you to turn into heat.

For all of oak's amazing properties, it needs to be very dry to burn efficiently, and even then it doesn't burn with a strong flame, preferring to smoulder slowly to long-lasting embers - so try combining it with other species, or if you're looking for wood with a stronger live flame, try our mixed ash and beech logs or cherry wood logs.
