What we ate at Fume BBQ Festival 2025

We went to Fume on Friday and we had an amazing time, so we thought we'd tell you about everything we had to eat... ALL COOKED OVER FIRE!!!

Just a heads up, we paid for our tickets and we bought all of our food and drinks - we were there as punters, nothing else. But Fume, or Tod, if you're reading... feel free to invite us back next year!!!

First up, we'd heard some moaning about Fume festivals earlier in the year – there were apparently big queues to get in and it was hard to get a drink, but we didn’t experience any of that! We got in easily, the traders were all well stocked and we barely queued for drinks... so please let us know if you spot any mistakesm because we just got home!

The traders all looked amazing and we'd have liked to have tried everything on offer but, greedy as we are, there’s only so much two people can eat in five hours... especially when the beers and margaritas are on tap!

Here’s everything we ate and what we thought of it...

We’ve wanted to try Meat Castles ever since we first drooled over them on Instagram back in 2021.

Having spent most of this year trying to lose the weight he gained post-wedding, Paul was also excited for a cheat day and decided to embrace their F*ck Diets mantra.

Now these guys won Burger Fest UK a week ago, so we knew we’d be in for a treat, but even after four years of waiting, we didn't know just how good this burger was gonna be.

A proper smash is what gives each Meat Castles burger that infamous crust, but wha's really unusual for a smashie is retaining that juicy, pink, medium rare meat in the middle.

One of the best burgers we’ve ever had, and now we've had one, we're sure to schlep over to Lincolnshire for another soon!

Banquet 1415 are a Love Logs customer, so we agreed that if the food was no good, we’d just leave them out of this write up 😆 Thankfully, we didn’t need to worry about that – the food was epic as always and the live fire cooking meant they had one of the biggest queues ALL DAY!

Three different grills including one Matias made last night, the best British wood, several traditional Argentinian cuts of met, colourful veg and even pineapple hung and smoking away over fire.

We started with the cheapest dish of the festival – the £3 Honey Money pork taco. It was hot, full of flavour and forewarned us that we were in for a treat with the other two dishes!

Paul went to Matias’ class at Alfresco Chapel recently and he'd told me how good the fire cooked meats were, so we knew we could expect big things from the costillas (beef ribs, for those of you who don’t speak Spanish!).

These were proper Argentinian style. Juicy and delicious, but with some bite and some texture rather than falling apart in your mouth - cooked to around 85°C internal rather than the 95°C favoured in BBQ. I cant actually describe how good the ‘nduja chimichurri was... but Paul had to stop me licking the box clean.

Choripan next... nope, we didn't know what it was either!

We may get banned from Argentina for saying this, which would be awks as we're going there in January... but choripan is basically a hot dog with chorizo sausage. But this was Matias own recipe served on soft, baguette style bread – served with some of that famous ‘nduja chimichurri, this is proper Argentinian street food, and we loved it!

You can’t go to a BBQ festival without having some wings, especially as wings are Paul's absolute favourite food... yep, even more than pizza!

The choice at Shwing’s was incredible, but we stuck with their old faithful Buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce. Tangy first, crispy second, then you get the perfectly cooked, juicy chicken... all wrapped up in rich blue cheese.

Paul said these were some of the best Buffalo wings he'd ever eaten... and he's eaten a lot! My only regret is that we didn’t have space left to try the chilli & honey, so we'll be back.

Paul watched BBQ Showdown religiously, so he’d told me about KG’s journey and we were so excited to try something a little different. Egyptian influenced American BBQ?? You've got to have the lamb, right?

Oh.

My.

God.

Smoked lamb chop from KG BBQ

We ordered from KG's when the queue had died down so these guys had delivered four and a half hours of service, and the food was still faultless.

The chop was a perfect medium rare, the leg was pull-apart tender, and the dressings & garnishes were nothing short of perfect. Paul's words were "When I know I can't get close to cooking something something myself, I know it's special" and that really summed it up.

KG’s is everything good BBQ should be. Their huge Ironbrand Custom Smoker and pimped up rotisserie put on a show that drew the crowds in, the service was impeccable... but there;s no doubt the quality of the food is what kept them coming back.

With the shortest menu of the day, KG epitomises the phrase ‘do one thing well’.

We'll be back to Fume in the future and we can 100% recommend it - it's not for the BBQ obsessives, it's just a great day out in the capital with unbelievable foo, great vibes, and as you can tell from the overwhelmingly positive feeling in this blog, plenty of drinks.

Again, Tod & team... if you're reading... we will happily take freebies!
